Elk Lodge’s new giving process supports local organizations

Vernon Elks Lodge #45 is supporting local organizations with a new charity giving process.

The organization that has been supporting the community since 1920, has a new system to help identify the needs of the community when non-profits and charities apply for funding.

“We are excited about this new process,” said president Lorna Robb in a news release.

“We want to ensure that the funds raised by the Elks Lodge #45 via gaming grants and fundraising events, like the meat draws, are going where they are most needed.”

The applications are reviewed by a committee of Elks members, and those deemed most in need are awarded funds.

On Monday, July 18, the organization announced that it is providing $3,000 to local organizations.

“Today we are delighted to be providing $1,000 to Independent Living Vernon, on behalf of Vernon Adaptiv, and $2,000 to the Vernon Native Housing Society: $1,000 for the children’s summer recreational activities and $1,000 for elderly summer activities,” said Dave Hoyte, Vernon Elks Lodge #45 treasurer.

The funds for Independent Living Vernon will support the adaptive paddling program that has been run in partnership with the Vernon Paddling Centre the past four years.

The money for Vernon Native Housing with provide tenants with the ability to participate in activities and programs they may not be able to access on their own.
