A local politician has been named a recipient of the Lieutenant Governor’s Arts and Music Award.

Amanda Shatzko, the Director of the Regional District of North Okanagan’s (RDNO) Area C (BX/Silverstar), was named one of 11 people who received the award recognizing leadership, creativity, community engagement, passion or commitment to fostering and mentoring others in the fields of visual arts, music or performance.

Melany Nugent-Noble of Kelowna and the Central Okanagan was also among the individual recipients.

There were also 17 groups or organizations recognized with the award, including Ballet Kelowna and Creative Okanagan.

Along with marking the contributions to promoting art and music, the one-time awards were part of Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

“I am delighted to congratulate the recipients of these special awards,” said Janet Austin, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia.

“It is a great privilege to support such talented creators in our province, particularly those who make a big impact at so many levels. In honour of the 70 years of service of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, it’s very important to recognize the service of these artists to their communities through the Lieutenant Governor’s Arts and Music Awards.”
