Flood Watch still in effect

Enderby road no longer flooded, river levels down

Jul 4, 2022 | 1:50 PM

The City of Enderby said Riverdale Drive is no longer flooded as of noon Monday, July 4.

The road has reopened to non-local traffic.

Meanwhile, the Kildonan Boat Launch and Tuey Park remain closed due to flooding and the public is asked to respect all barricades and signage.

As of Monday, the hydrometric gauge on the Shuswap River put the water height at 4.19 metres with a discharge rate of 342 cubic metres per second.

Those are down from the 4.38 m height and 375 m3/s discharge rate recorded on Thursday, June 30.

The City stated that the forecast calls for a mix of sun, clouds and rain throughout the week, and predicts the weather will result in the discharge rate continuing to decrease, reaching 320.6 m3/s by Thursday, July 7.

The B.C. River Forecast Centre is maintaining the Flood Watch for the Shuswap Region, meaning river levels may approach or exceed the river bank and cause flooding.

The City of Enderby Emergency Operations Centre is open and responding to localized flooding. Residents in flood-prone areas are advised to take measures to protect their properties.

Sand and sandbags are available at the Public Works Yard at 2308 McGowan Street. People are reminded to bring their own shovels.

The public is also advised to be cautious of fast moving water and to avoid going into the river in human-powered vessels such as inflatables, stand-up paddle boards, kayaks or canoes.

The riverbanks may also be unstable due the high and fast moving water, and people are encouraged to be safe near water ways.
