Daley’s focus is on making 2023 Memorial Cup ‘memorable event’
KAMLOOPS — Norm Daley brings the most behind-the-scenes sporting experience of anyone in the community, especially important during an upcoming season where the Blazers host the Memorial Cup.
“A big part of this is I was involved in the Memorial Cup process and getting us to that point where we were successful with the bid,” he said. “At that point, I changed my mind. I said if I’m going to be involved in this, let’s go all the way and be part of it.”
Blazers’ majority owner Tom Gaglardi says hiring Daley as team President was a no-brainer. He’s been in talks with Daley since the fall, and the two came to an agreement on a multi-year deal in the spring.
“When it comes to hosting an event of that capacity like the Memorial Cup, Norm has the most experience of anyone. He was an easy decision,” noted Gaglardi. “He retired, so we had our eye on it, waited for him to get through that, and so now the time’s right. I can’t think of a better guy in the community to take this on and to lead the organization through this monumental year.”
