Odour from Vernon cannabis growing facility being addressed

A cannabis production company in Vernon is in the process of reducing the odour from its facility after being the subject of complaints.

An administration report to Vernon City Council stated that a commercial cannabis production facility in the 1700 block of Kosmina Road is taking steps to reduce the smell.

The report said the business is upgrading the air filtration system to mitigate the smell and to ensure the site is in line with Health Canada’s odour control requirements for indoor cannabis production.

The air filtration upgrade comes after 23 complaints regarding the smell were made to bylaw this year.

Bylaw has since worked with the facility manager, who indicated on May 18 that the air filtration system will be installed by June 10.

It was also noted that the filters in the new system will be changed regularly to ensure that the operation does not produce future odours.

Bylaw Compliance has also reported the issue to Health Canada for follow up and has requested a file update from Health Canada Compliance and Enforcement to ensure the odour control requirements set out in the regulations are met and maintained.

It’s recommended that people with further complaints about the facility report their comments directly to Health Canada’s online complaint system.
