Gas prices spike in Vernon

Prices at the pump jumped significantly in Vernon Thursday.

As of 5:30 p.m., three stations in Vernon were selling gasoline at $2.19.9 per litre, marking a more than 20 cent increase.

The gas price tracking website Gasbuddy reported that the highest gasoline prices could be found at the Petro-Canada on 27th St., the Chevron on Okanagan Landing Rd., and at the Mobil and Superstore on Anderson Way.

The Canadian Tire station also had its price set at $2.16.9 per litre.

As of time of publication, the Super Save and Safeway stations still had their prices set at $1.92.9, while the prices at other stations ranged from $1.93.9 to $1.96.9.

The more than 20 cent increase was seen just hours after OPEC (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) announced that oil production will increase by 648,000 barrels per day in July and August in an effort to provide some relief to the global economy.
