Crime Stoppers is helping Vernon and area residents keep their identities safe.

The North Okanagan/Shuswap branch of the crime prevention organization is running the community Shred-a-Thon and encouraging people to properly dispose of documents.

On Saturday, May 28, Interior Mobile Shredding will be on site at the Wholesale Club for people to destroy any personal or business papers, financial papers like certificates of deposit, or other documents that fraudsters could use to steal an identity.

The Shred-a-Thon will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Attendees are asked to make a minimum donation of $5 per box at the shredding event.

The community Shred-a-Thon will set up at Askews Foods in Armstrong on September 10 and at the Canadian Tire in Salmon Arm on October 1.
