RCMP step up enforcement for High Risk Driving month
With British Columbia roads starting to see increased users, bringing with it an increased risk of collisions, the RCMP and B.C. Highway Patrol have dubbed May High Risk Driving month and is cracking down on dangerous behaviour.
During the month, police across B.C. are conducting enhanced enforcement to educate the driving public and target high risk driving behaviours, such as:
- Speeding/Excessive Speed;
- Impaired Driving;
- Driving without Due Care and Attention;
- Distracted Driving / Use of Electronic Devices;
- Following too closely;
- Ignoring traffic control devices;
- Improper passing;
- Racing/Stunting.
Statistics from ICBC show that, on average, 114 fatal crashes each year in B.C. are attributed to high risk driving. Of those fatalities, an average of 37 occur in the Southern Interior.
