If you know of some North Okanagan athletes that have done something great over the past year, a local committee wants to hear about it.

The public is invited to nominate local sports heroes for the 29th annual Tim Hortons North Okanagan Athlete, Team and Leadership awards.

You can participate by sending in your pick, either by telephone or e-mail to committee chairperson Jack Gilroy. Nominations are being received until May 30, 2022.

The 2020-2021 winners included:

Tim Hortons North Okanagan Athlete of the Year Ben Hladik, a Vernon native, who was chosen by the BC Lions in the 2021 CFL draft

Tim Hortons North Okanagan Team of the Year VSS Panthers senior girls basketball team which advanced to the provincial championship round last year

Tim Hortons North Okanagan Leadership in Sports Don Friesen, a dynamo who raised money and then the roof on the newly-covered, 12-court pickleball facility at Marshall Fields

The awards are chosen by a panel of media and sports community reps.
