Study finds microplastics in Okanagan Lake
A study by Okanagan College and community partners has found low levels of microplastics in part of Okanagan Lake.
According to Wikipedia, Microplastics are fragments of any type of plastic less than 5 mm in length that cause pollution by entering natural ecosystems from a variety of sources, including cosmetics, clothing, food packaging and industrial processes.
Kelowna residents Gregg Howald, Ryan Cope and Jan Vozenilek formed the idea to get a better idea of plastic pollution in the Okanagan freshwater ecosystem after seeing the impact on marine wildlife while at a wildlife refuge in the North Pacific Ocean.
