Charge laid in Kootenay homicide

Mar 17, 2022 | 5:00 PM

A suspect has been arrested in a sudden death that turned into a homicide investigation.

The case began on February 6, 2022 when RCMP in the East Kootenay town of Creston were contacted after a 56-year-old woman was found dead in her residence.

“Based on the totality of the information, the investigation evolved from a sudden death investigation into a suspected homicide,” said Sgt. Chris Manseau, media relations officer with BC RCMP Communication Services. “Once that determination was made, the RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit took conduct of the investigation

The latest update came on March 16 when 63-year-old Creston resident, Mitchell McIntyre, was arrested.

“Although initially believed to be a natural death, investigators worked tirelessly on this matter, and have since determined it to be a homicide,” said Manseau. “A suspect was later identified, and has since been arrested and charged.”

The B.C. Prosecution Service has charged McIntyre with murder.

The victim is not being identified by police at this time.
