Ionic smartwatch recalled due to burn hazard

Mar 2, 2022 | 4:45 PM

A recall has been issued for Ionic smartwatches due to a potential burn hazard.

Health Canada warns that the fitness-oriented smartwatch is equipped with a lithium-ion battery that can overheat and burn the user.

The recall applies to the slate blue/burnt orange, charcoal/smoke gray, blue-gray/white and Adidas Edition ink blue and ice gray/silver gray models.

As of February 15, there had been no reports of incidents or injuries related to the watch in Canada or Mexico, but 115 reports of the battery overheating have been filed in the United States.

Anyone who owns an Ionic smartwatch is advised to stop using the product and to contact Fitbit LLC online or by phone at 1-888-925-1764 for a refund.

Approximately 70,651 of these watches were sold in Canada between August 2017 and August 2020.
