Interior home to 191 new COVID-19 cases

The Interior had the second highest new COVID-19 cases in B.C. Thursday, Feb. 17.

The B.C. Centre for Disease Control reported 191 new infections in the Interior (decrease of 86 from Wednesday), second only to the 226 identified in the Fraser Health Authority.

The new cases were part of 782 recorded across B.C. (increase of 32).

The number of British Columbians hospitalized with COVID-19 fell by 18 to 744, while the number of patients in intensive care fell by one to 120.

There were five deaths recorded in B.C. Thursday, three from Vancouver Coastal Health and two from Northern Health, bringing the total number of British Columbians who have died due to the virus to 2,781.

As of Thursday, 90.5 per cent of British Columbians aged five and over have received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and 85.5 per cent are double dosed.

Additionally, 93.1 per cent of British Columbians aged 12 and over and 93.5 per cent of B.C.’s adult population have received a first dose of a vaccine. The second dose rates for residents aged 12 and over was recorded at 90.5 per cent, while the rate for adults was 91 per cent. It’s also noted that 53.6 per cent of British Columbians aged 12 and over and 56 per cent of adults in the province have received a booster.

There were three health-care facilities added to the outbreak list, including the Mountainview Village and Three Links Manor in the Interior. However, these were offset by seven facilities, including four in the Interior, being declared over.

As of Thursday there were 32 health-care facilities classified as active outbreak sites, 10 of which were located in the Interior.
