Driver spotted using cell phone facing ten charges

A traffic stop on a driver seen using a cell phone in Kelowna led to Mounties finding a lethal weapon.

A traffic services officer was working in the downtown area on the afternoon of Saturday, Jan. 29, when they observed a driver using a phone. The vehicle was stopped near Queensway Avenue and the officer found out that the driver was prohibited from driving.

“When the officer arrested the driver, the driver attempted to flee the scene and resisted arrest before he was safely taken into police custody,” said Cpl. Tammy Lobb, media relations.

Lobb said during a search of the driver, officers found a loaded handgun and a small amount of suspected methamphetamine, fentanyl and cocaine.
