DVA sponsors two Winter Carnival events

The Downtown Vernon Association is bringing back two popular events as part of the 62nd annual Vernon Winter Carnival.

One is the Gold Rush Scavenger Hunt which made its debut in 2021.

“Returning by popular demand, through numerous calls asking it to bring it back in 2022,” said Peter Kaz, marketing, communications and promotions coordinator for the DVA. They stated how they learned so much of our history and finding new spots during their treks.”

Kaz said Gold Rush won Carnival’s award for ‘Best Outdoor Event’ in 2021.

For $10, you can purchase a clue package from the Winter Carnival office, starting today ( Jan. 28). Those who correctly answer the 12 clues are placed in a draw for a gold nugget, along with other prizes from the 21 participating sponsors.

“Don’t miss out, only 250 clue packs are available. Proceeds of this game will be going towards NOFSS [North Okanagan Youth and Family Services]. Follow our socials to view some of last years clues and some extra help for this years adventure,” Kaz advised.

The 13th annual Chili Cook-Off is also back. It will be available at five restaurants from Feb.4-13, using the same format that was initiated successfully last year.

“Instead of Vernonites huddling outside of a restaurant with a sample cup of chili, our restaurants are hosting the contest for the entire Carnival for dine-in or take-out. Choose their chili meal or sample cup and rate the chili. Ask for your official chili ballot card at your first venue and rate at least four out of the five participants to enter our contest,” said Kaz.

This year, the DVA is adding a social media component. Simply take a photo of the chili, or of you enjoying it, and tag the venue, the DVA and two friends for another chance to win a prize.

“Visit Eatology, Marten Brewing, The Kal, Ratio or Station BBQ and rate them. They each have awesome names for their chili and for their team (see ballot card),” Kaz exclaimed.
