Starts Feb. 1
Milk and other containers added to deposit program

Milk and plant-based beverage containers will be accepted for refunds at B.C. recycling facilities starting February 1, which is also when you’ll have to start paying a 10-cent deposit when you buy them.
Changes under the Clean B.C. Plastic Action Plan mean empty ready-to-drink plant-based beverage containers, such as oat, almond, and soy, along with milk containers of any size, will be eligible for deposits at Return-It sites province wide.
The containers have to be rinsed and clean to be accepted.
Milk and plant-based beverage containers can still be put in residential and blue box recycling bins, but will not be eligible for the deposit refund.
