COVID-19 cases continue to climb in the Interior

The Interior’s active COVID-19 case count rose to 5,580 Tuesday as 478 new cases were reported in the region.

The cases were part of 1,975 reported across B.C., an increase of 466 from Monday, bringing the provincial active case count to 37,167 an increase of 1,182.

Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 in B.C. rose to 854 Tuesday, up by 35, with 112 of those patients in intensive care, an increase of 13.

Two deaths were also reported, both in the Fraser Health region. To date 2,492 British Columbians have died due to COVID-19.

B.C.’s vaccination rates for eligible residents aged five and over rose to 89.3 per cent for first doses and 83.4 per cent for second jabs.

In the 12 and over demographic, the vaccination rates were 92.4 per cent for first doses, 89.7 per cent for second jabs and 34.3 per cent for third or booster shots.

Additionally, 92.8 per cent of adults in B.C. have had one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 90.1 per cent have had two jabs and 36.8 per cent have had a third shot.

The Ministry of Health reported nine new health-care facility outbreaks, including the Village at Smith Creek in the Interior. As of Tuesday there were 53 active outbreak sites in B.C., including eight in the Interior.
