Crash victim with Vernon ties facing long recovery from numerous injuries

The son of a long-time Vernon area family is slowly recovering from serious injuries suffered in a motor vehicle crash earlier this month.

Adam Haubrich was driving on the Whistler-Squamish Highway Dec. 9 when witnesses say a car hit his vehicle head on at highway speed. He was then t-boned on the driver’s side by another vehicle and pushed into the guard rail.

A GoFundMe started by his friend Jessie Morden said Haubrich sustained serious, life threatening injuries which included multiple skull fractures, a brain bleed, all of his facial bones were broken (jaw, nose and orbital bones), a blown ear drum, eight fractured ribs, a fractured sternum, three spinal fractures and a compound fracture of his femur.

“Adam has undergone surgery to fix his femur which now has a rod and multiple screws holding it in place. He’s also had facial reconstruction surgery and 10 metal plates have been placed in his face,” said the GoFundMe page.

Haubrich, the son of Russell Haubrich and Shella Leddingham who started Putnam Station Hotel at Silver Star Resort, is expected to be in hospital for a long time. He and his fiance, Cassie Kentwell, were set to be married in March.

“Adam has a very long journey ahead of him and needs all the support he can get. Any contribution will help to relieve the immense pressure an accident like this places on a family,” Morden wrote.

An update from Morden said Haubrich is slowly recovering but is in immense pain.

“Every day seems worse than the one before. His jaw is wired shut so he is having a lot of trouble “eating” which he has to do through a syringe.”

The GoFundMe had raised close to $50,000 on more than 450 donations as of 1:00 p.m. today (Dec. 19).
