New phase of Okanagan Youth Recovery House kicks off with $25,000 gift

Nov 30, 2021 | 12:00 PM

The campaign to open a purpose-built facility for youth struggling with addiction is off to a strong start thanks to the support of the Stober Foundation.

The group’s $25,000 donation will be added to the Bridge Youth and Family Services’ capital campaign to build Phase Two of their Okanagan Youth Recovery House. The Bridge opened Phase One in May of 2021 with Interior Health and the Province of B.C. covering operational costs.

“The Stober Foundation is well-known for their commitment to improving the lives of those in need and this gift is no exception,” said Bridge Executive Director, Celine Thompson.

Thompson said the organization is proud of what they have been able to do for Phase I but the current space does have its limitations.

“A purpose-built space will allow us to tailor the residents’ environment in an intentional and deliberate way. Every aspect of the building and its surroundings will reflect and acknowledge evidence-informed practice and the feedback we received from focus groups of families, communities and young people,” she explained.

The proposed building will be a home away from home where youth can focus on self-improvement by way of building connections. The design of the House will work to promote self-growth by connecting the youth to themselves, their allies, and nature.

“Our foundation has long had a focus on helping those in need, specifically through supporting programs and services that help the underserviced populations from our community and beyond. The work that The Bridge does within our community is integral,” said Thompson.

Through their evidence-based treatment modalities, the organization provides essential care for those living with addictions, along with valuable opportunities for change for those who might not otherwise have them.

The Bridge is officially launching Phase Two of its capital campaign today, as part of #GivingTuesdayCA. GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement-taking place each year after Black Friday, and is the “opening day of the giving season.”
