Potential COVID-19 exposure events at three Vernon schools

Interior Health (IH) says BX Elementary, Alexis Park Elementary and Ecole Bearisto Elementary were all potential COVID-19 exposure sites last week.

Bearisto was first listed on IH’s potential school exposure event list on Nov. 2, and the health authority states that the site was a potential exposure event up until Monday, Nov. 8.

BX was listed as a potential exposure site from Nov. 3 to 5, and was then added to the list again as a potential exposure event from Nov. 8 to 10.

Alexis Park, which hasn’t been on the list since Nov. 3, was added as a potential site for Monday, Nov. 8 as well.

The Vernon Christian School remains classified as an outbreak site, which was declared on Nov. 4.

Schools are added to IH’s potential exposure site list when a school staff member or a student tests positive for COVID-19. Staff and students’ families are contacted following the positive test and advised on what steps to take, whether it be getting tested or self-monitoring or isolating due to exposure.

Outbreak sites must close until the outbreak is declared over.
