Oct 6, 2021 | 7:00 AM

ScienceUpFirst is running it’s second #TakeScience virtual Town Hall to address a range of topics on viruses and answer questions from Canadians.

ScienceUpFirst is a national collective of independent scientists, researchers, health care experts and science communicators. The coalition was launched at the start of the pandemic to provide facts about COVID-19, attempt to combat misinformation on social media, and provide people with information to help break out of their echo chambers.

The #TakeScience Town Hall, which is set to go on Thursday, Oct. 7 at 5 p.m. PDT, will feature speakers discussing viruses and variants, how to stay safe as the seasons change, and how to navigate difficult conversations while caring for each other’s mental health.

There will also be a Q&A potion to the event to allow attendees to ask questions from the panel members:

  • Dr. Tyler Black, a suicidologist, emergency psychiatrist and pharmacologist
  • Sabrina Vohra-Miller, a pharmacologist and Advisor of the Institute for Pandemics at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health
  • Dr. Janine McCready, an Infectious Disease Physician

The panel will be moderated by Samantha Yammine, a renowned Neuroscientist and science communicator.

The #TakeScience Town Hall is free to attend, and people can register for the virtual event here.

This is the second #TakeScience Town Hall ScienceUpFirst has run. The first, which can be viewed here, focused on staying safe when returning to school/
