UPDATE: Facebook, Instagram & WhatsApp back online

UPDATE: 5:00 p.m.

Facebook and its subsidiaries, Instagram and WhatsApp, are all back in operation after a world outage that lasted about seven hours today.

Facebook has not commented on the cause but analysts are suggesting it was an issue with the company’s Domain Name System.

Facebook and its Instagram and WhatsApp platforms have been down in parts of the world today.

The company said it was “aware that some people are having trouble accessing Facebook app” and it was working on restoring access.

The company did not say what might be causing the outage, which began around 8:45 a.m. B.C. time.

Facebook is going through a major crisis after the whistleblower who was the source of The Wall Street Journal’s series of stories exposing the company’s awareness of internal research into the negative effects of its products went public on “60 Minutes” Sunday.
