Local company helps growing industry become more sustainable

A Vernon business has been nominated for six awards at a national event honouring cannabis professionals and companies.

BlueSky Organics (BSO), manufacturer of specialized soil and nutrient blends for organic cannabis and agriculture production, is up for the following awards at the Grow Up Industry Awards:

Outstanding Research
Cultivation Education
Best Growing Media
Nutrients Product
Grow-at-home Package

The winners will be announced at the “Grow-up Conference and Expo” in Niagara Falls, Ontario, November 30 to December 2, 2021, with the awards recognizing excellence and innovation in the industry.

The event is the largest B2B Cannabis Growers Conference in Canada, hosting over 3,000 industry personnel and more than 100 speakers.

BSO won “Best Nutrients’ at the 2019 event, with the 2020 event cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are very pleased with this record number of nominations, as it validates the work we are doing to help the industry become more environmentally sustainable. It’s not what you grow, it’s what you grow with.” Mary Horvatincic, co-founder and BlueSkyOrganics CEO, said.

BSO is promoting sustainable growing practices with products that are compostable and come from nature. The widespread use of rockwool (spun rock minerals) starter cubes creates significant waste. BSO is also working with University of British Columbia-Okanagan researchers to develop innovative sustainable growing media utilizing industrial waste by-products.

“BSO’s YouTube channel ‘The Cannabis Learning Network’ has over 52,000 subscribers and over 3.4 million views to date, establishing the company as a leading source of information for growers of all skill sets,” said BSO marketing manager Kevin Rothwell.

BlueSky Organics was founded in 2015 by growers to provide top quality soils, growing media and nutrients for organic production of cannabis, agriculture crops and home gardening.
