COVID-19 cases in Interior fall for the fourth day in row

Active COVID-19 cases in the Interior continued their downward trend as they fell to 1,504 Thursday.

The drop from Wednesday’s 1,536 cases marks the fourth consecutive day that active cases in the region have declined.

The drop comes despite 213 of the 703 new cases in B.C. being recorded in the Interior. As of Thursday, there were 5,844 active cases in British Columbia.

There were four more COVID-related deaths, one in Northern Health and three in Fraser Health, for a total of 1,877 in B.C.

Provincial figures show there were 4,914 cases confirmed between Sept. 8 and 14. Of those cases, 3,347, or 68.1 per cent, were people who had not been vaccinated; 391, or 8 per cent, were partially vaccinated individuals; and the remaining 1,176, or 23.9 per cent, were fully immunized.

Meanwhile, hospitalizations from COVID-19 continued to climb on Thursday. There were 291 British Columbians in hospital due to the virus, 134 of whom are in intensive care.

The province reports that between Sept. 1 and 14, 390 British Columbians were admitted to hospital with COVID-19; 81.5 per cent, or 318, of those individuals had not received a dose of a COVID-19 vaccine; 4.9 per cent, or 19, of those patients were partially vaccinated; and 53, or 13.6 per cent, were fully vaccinated.

The provincial first-dose vaccination rate for British Columbians age 12 and over rose to 86.3 per cent Thursday, as the second-dose rate for eligible recipients climbed to 78.8 per cent.

A new health-care facility outbreak was announced in the Fraser Health region Thursday, while the Nicola Meadows and Rose Woods Village outbreaks, which are both located in the Interior, have been declared as over. There are now 23 active outbreak sites in B.C., 12 of which are located in the Interior.
