Off to the races? Seven vehicles impounded for speeding

Tow truck drivers were kept busy by speeding drivers over the Labour Day long weekend.

Between Friday, Sept. 3, and Sunday, Sept. 6, RCMP in the North Okanagan impounded seven vehicles for excessive speeding. The vehicles were towed from the scenes and locked-up for seven days.

“Despite ongoing and repeated warnings about the risks and consequences of aggressive driving, police continue to see vehicles travelling at dangerous speeds,” said Const Chris Terleski, media relations officer.

Drivers were caught speeding in the following areas:

Highway 97 / Salmon River Road, 170km/h in 90km/h zone;
Highway 97 / Greenhow Road, 151km/h in a 100km/h zone (vehicle did not have insurance);
Highway 97 / Greenhow Road, 153 km/h in a 100 km/h zone;
Highway 97 / Kneller Road, 133 km/hr in a 90 km/h zone;
Highway 6 near Lavington, 161 km/h in a 80 km/h zone;
Highway 97 / Clerke Road, 143 km/h in a 90 km/h zone;
Highway 97 / Vista Road, 140 km/h in an 90 km/h zone.

In addition to the 7-day vehicle impounds, excessive speeding fines between $368 and $483 were issued to the drivers.

“Aggressive driving endangers everyone on the road,” stated Terleski. “Our officers will continue enforcement activities to combat aggressive driving by targeting and removing these drivers from the road, but we want drivers to make the right choice to drive responsibly and obey the rules of the road for everyone’s safety.”
