Driver led away in handcuffs after downtown incident

Aug 13, 2021 | 6:30 AM

A woman was removed from a vehicle and taken away in handcuffs outside a Vernon business on Thursday.

The arrest came after reports of a car hitting a cement barrier in the parking lot of Surplus Herby’s on 31st Avenue around 3:20 p.m.

Vernon Fire Rescue also responded to the incident, but left after being advised by RCMP they were not needed.

There did not appear to be any damage to the outside of the business where the car was.

“Frontline officers attended the scene where they found the vehicle with the driver still inside,” said Constable Chris Terleski, media relations officer with Vernon North Okanagan RCMP. “The driver, a 26-year old woman who is prohibited from driving, was arrested by officers and later released from the scene. No injuries were reported to police and the investigation is continuing.”
