The Bunting Road Fire north east of Lumby is now estimated at 3,000 hectares by the BC Wildfire Service, a big jump from the 600 hectares reported on Monday.

That fire on the east side of Mabel Lake, led to about 66 properties on Mabel Lake Forest Service Road being evacuated Tuesday by the Regional District of North Okanagan.

While the fire is still classified as out of control, the Wildfire Service says crews have made good progress on the fire, constructing guards on the north and south ends of the west flank, widening existing road ways and working on small hot spots.

The fire, which was discovered July 7, is located 41 kilometres north east of Lumby.
