A well-known Vernon business has a new owner.

Vick Singla, a Vancouver-based businessman, has bought the Squires Four Pub, along with the Liquor and Cannabis Stores on Stickle Road, from Serry Massoud who had owned it since 2009.

Singla, who owns some liquor stores in the Lower Mainland and Hope, says he saw the sale listing for the business last year while on a visit to Vernon.

“Where ever I go, I have that habit — I look at the real estate, the businesses and residential values. So I saw this listing and I made a visit and had a chance to meet Serry. I loved meeting him and saw the audience that was coming to the liquor store and pub,” Singla told Vernon Matters.

Singla said there were many things about the business that attracted him.

“I just loved the architecture and loved the building. And it’s on a highway, with good connections, so it just attracted me. I think it has a great potential for business.”

Singla says he’s not planning any changes to the staff, but there will be some building upgrades.

“We are planning to make some changes to the pub. We are trying to make some good renovations to attract more audience and to give them a better experience.”

Singla said he has leased the pub to a person that is part of the management team.

“It’s wonderful people there. It’s very friendly and very honest, and I had a great experience doing this transaction,” said Singla who said he is looking at more investments in Vernon.

Massoud had a simple answer when asked why he sold the business.

“I am 74 years old. That’s the main reason,” he told Vernon Matters. We kept it for 12 years. I loved the place and I loved the customers, and how it looks.”

Squires Four Four Neighbourhood Pub opened in 1986, and was owned at that time by the “Squires Four”: Douglas Gee, Dick File, Jim MacGillivray and Rick Reichelt.
