Walkers and cyclists will have a little more room to maneuver along Old Kamloops Road, following the completion of paving work within Electoral Area B.

Regional District of North Okanagan Electoral Area B Director Bob Fleming had asked that the shoulders be paved on both sides to allow a safer route for alternative transportation.

The paving only covers from the City of Vernon boundary to Highway 97, the city portion of the road remains unimproved.

The work was completed by Ministry of Transportation contractor AIM Roads.

There has been an increased effort to widen various road shoulders in the Greater Vernon area, as part of connecting various hiking and cycling trails.

Commonage Road was recently upgraded, and work continues on Francis Street in Area C.
