ORIGINAL: Interior Health (IH) has declared a COVID-19 outbreak on Level 3 surgical unit at Vernon Jubilee Hospital (VJH).

Three patients have tested positive for the virus.

“An investigation is ongoing and any patient with COVID-19 will be relocated to the COVID unit,” a news release from IH stated.

Anyone discharged from Level 3 surgical unit between March 15-21 is advised to self-isolate.

“There is no evidence of COVID-19 transmission to other areas of the hospital at this time,” the release said.

Outbreak control measures are in place and a team of infection control and communicable disease specialists, along with VJH clinical staff and leaders, are meeting daily to contain the outbreak.

“The hospital remains safe to attend for appointments and emergency care. Please continue with any scheduled procedures. Self-isolation or COVID-19 testing is not required after visiting the hospital,” said IH.

Some surgeries requiring an overnight stay may be postponed, but replaced with day surgeries. All patients will be notified if their procedure is impacted and re-scheduled as quickly as possible.
