Construction has started on the former Canadian Tire store on 27th Street in Vernon to convert the building into a two-storey storage facility.

A report to city council indicated the development of the Vernon Storage Centre would involve revamping the 58,000 square foot store, and constructing a 50,000 square foot second level.

A B.C. company, well-versed in major commercial buildings, Ventana Construction based in Burnaby, is the general contractor and construction manager.

Some demolition work is currently being conducted, where the former lawn and garden addition was built onto the store.

There was a subdivision application to remove the portion of land for the Vernon Storage Centre from the property utilized by the Canadian Tire gas bar.

The gas bar continues to operate on the front portion of the property at 4512-27th Street.

Canadian Tire moved to a larger facility, in the former Target store, in the Village Green Shopping Centre in May 2016.
