UPDATE: Highway 97 reopens in West Kelowna after fatal shooting

Mar 21, 2021 | 1:10 PM

UPDATE 1:10 p.m.

Highway 97 has reopened in West Kelowna as police investigate the shooting death of a man.

The RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit has been called in to investigate the circumstances surrounding the homicide that took place early Sunday morning (Mar. 21), on Highway 97 near Elk Road.

Mounties had closed the highway for several hours in that area “to facilitate a thorough investigation” of the incident.

Officers say the investigation has the characteristics of a targeted shooting. The BC Coroners Service will be conducting a concurrent fact finding investigation to determine a cause of death.

Police are seeking anyone with information about the incident, who was in this area between 3:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. this morning, March 21, and particularly motorists with dash cameras who travelled the highway at this time, to contact the RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit at 1-877-987-8477.
