What golfers have been waiting ‘Fore’

With spring just around the corner, North Okanagan golf courses are shining up their clubs with some announcing upgrades and changes.

Vernon Golf and Country Club is in the process of upgrading the upper floor administration offices, washrooms, restaurant and banquet areas.

“The upper floor interior and exterior are both being substantially renovated, and we hope to have the clubhouse re-opened in early April,” general manager Julie Knobloch, told Vernon Matters.

The course has also purchased a golf simulator which was set-up at the Vernon Curling Club over the winter and will be operational at the course once the clubhouse renovations are complete.

The driving range is open by appointment, and golf resumes on March 23.

Hillview Golf’s 18 hole executive course is implementing some name changes and a new online reservation system.

The front nine is now called the “Meadow’ and the back nine is now called the ‘Summit.’

Both the Summit and the Meadow are numbered one to nine and there will be no more holes numbered 10-18.

Golfers will still be able to book a round of nine holes on either loop and can also play 18 holes, but will be starting on Summit number one and, after playing nine holes, will then move onto Meadow number one.

The course states the names will help guests select the nine that is best suited for their group; the easy flat Meadow or the more challenging Summit.

The course is also moving to new software for online booking called ‘Foreup.’ Golfers can book a tee time through the Hillview website as well.

The driving range is now open, and an opening date is expected to be announced soon.

Royal York Golf Club in Armstrong is opening April 1, and has announced several changes to its operation.

Royal York stated on its website that due to an impending sale to a new ownership group, the Royal York Golf Course (soon to be the Overlander Golf and Events Center) will operate as usual for the 2021 season.

Jesse Crowe, formally head pro at the Salmon Arm Golf Course, is the new director of golf operations and head professional. The course will transition to a teaching facility/executive course and updated events center.

The former operator of The Cattlemen’s Club at O’Keefe Ranch is now running the Overlander Restaurant and Events Centre.

Spallumcheen Golf and Country Club is open for members with a date for public golf to be determined.

Predator Ridge Golf Resort has set April 7 as its opening date.

The Rise Signature Golf Course has a tentative opening date of April 16.
