Crews bring Vernon area grass fire under control

Mar 16, 2021 | 1:29 PM

BX-Swan Lake fire crews were called to a grass fire that spread to a structure on the property.

The volunteer department was dispatched to a site at 1024 25th Avenue just before 1:00 p.m. today (Mar. 16).

Vernon Matters reporter Kevin Rothwell says the fire got into an outbuilding, but burned away from a manufactured home at the site.

One person — not a firefighter — required treatment for smoke inhalation.

UPDATE: The blaze was confirmed as extinguished by Fire Chief Bill Wacey at 1:47 p.m., with mop-up underway.

The cause is not known, but it may have been a controlled burn that got out of hand.

At last report, the department had about six firefighters and three apparatus, including a water tender, at the scene, which is just outside City of Vernon limits.
