North Okanagan RCMP have released details about a fatal accident in Spallumcheen on Saturday (Feb. 27) that took the life of a 48-year-old Vernon man.

At around 10 p.m., RCMP were notified by the B.C. Ambulance Service of a single vehicle accident on Corkscrew Road.

RCMP attended the scene and learned from witnesses the vehicle, travelling southbound on Corkscrew Road, failed to negotiate a sharp turn and left the roadway causing the driver, and lone occupant of the vehicle, to be ejected.

The B.C. Coroner’s Service and a RCMP collision analyst were called to assist in the investigation which is ongoing at this time.

“The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP offer our sincerest condolences to the friends and family of the deceased and all those who were affected by this tragedy,” Const. Chris Terleski, Media Relations Officer, Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, said.

Friends identified the victim on social media as Jason Graham, and the Okanagan Indian Band Fire Rescue said Graham was a recently resigned member of their department.

“He was a good pump operator, firefighter and first responder,” a Facebook post said. “We will miss his outgoing personality, bull in a china shop, his exuberance and need to go above and beyond.”
