Sport, arts, and culture groups in Vernon-Monashee get share of over $730,000

It’s like an early Christmas present for local non-profit groups.

New Democrat MLA Harwinder Sandhu has announced $737,910 to benefit 30 sport, arts, and culture organizations in Vernon and Lumby.

“These local arts, culture, and sports organizations bring people together in our community, and give us outlets for creativity, exercise, and more,” Sandhu, MLA for Vernon-Monashee, said. “The past year has been hard for everyone, and we need these things in our lives more than ever. I’m very glad that we’re supporting these great local groups to keep doing the important work they do, now or when it’s safe to do so.”

Funding is being provided through the Community Gaming Grants program and is benefitting eight arts and culture organizations in Vernon, and 22 community sports organizations in Vernon and Lumby.

Among the arts recipients are the Vernon Public Art Gallery Society with $56,000 and the O’Keefe Ranch and Interior Heritage Society with $47,500, while on the sport side, Greater Vernon Minor Hockey gets a grant for $75,000 and North Okanagan Youth Soccer receives $65,000.
