COVID-19 cases continue to surge

The second wave of COVID-19 sweeping B.C. isn’t letting up with 1,959 new cases from Friday afternoon to Monday afternoon, including a new daily record of 659 on Saturday. There are 6,279 active cases in the province.

There were 9 deaths over the week-end bringing the total to 299. 181 people are in hospital with 57 in intensive care.

There have been 11 new outbreaks in care homes, including two in the Interior Health Region (IH), one in Penticton and one in Kamloops. 87 new cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed in IH since Friday, there are currently 204 active cases with two people in hospital including one in intensive care.

“I have been asked many times about why B.C. hasn’t made the use of masks mandatory in public places.
“Most people are doing that already and it would not cover private homes.” Dr. Bonnie Henry B.C. Chief Public Health Officer said.
