New record for COVID-19 cases in B.C.

Nov 5, 2020 | 3:20 PM

British Columbia has set another new daily record for COVID-19 cases with 425.

All but 21 of those are in either the Fraser or Vancouver Coastal Health regions, with 18 new cases in Interior Health (IH).

There are 104 active cases in IH and one person is in hospital.

On a positive note, the outbreak at a French language school in Kelowna, Ecole De L’Anse-Au-Sable, has been declared over and classes will resume Friday.

Dr. Bonnie Henry, provincial health officer, thanked everyone in the school’s community for their assistance in working with Interior Health to manage what was the first outbreak at a B.C. school.

There are now 3,389 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. with 97 people in hospital and 24 in critical or intensive care.

Currently 7,519 people are under active monitoring for COVID-19, and 12,806 people have recovered.

Dr. Henry said 11,020 tests were conducted since Wednesday, and the 425 new cases is a test positive rate of 3.8 percent, which is a rise from the last few weeks.

There are no new deaths with that total still at 273.

New case counts by health region:

  • Vancouver Coastal: 126
  • Fraser: 268
  • Island: 7
  • Interior: 18
  • Northern: 6
  • Residents from outside of Canada (no change)
