$250,000 goal

Kal Rotary Dream Auction becomes Dream Fund for 2020

Sep 17, 2020 | 11:03 AM

The Kalamalka Rotary Dream Auction is not able to be held this year due to the COVID pandemic, but in its place will be an online Dream Fund.

“Now more than ever, Kal Rotary is committed to finding ways to continue to build strong communities,” Brian Reid, Dream Fund chair, said.. “We’re asking those who have supported us over the years and community members, to donate to our online Dream Fund. If we are to help so many in need, we will need your support. Please donate what you can. Every dollar makes an impact.”

A GoFundMe Page will be active until November 21, 2020.

“In that time, our goal is to raise $250,000,” President of Kalamalka Rotary Dustin Stadnyk said. “We hope that each and every one of you will help us make a difference in the lives of others.”

The funds will be invested into organizations that support families in the community and around the world, as have funds from the Dream Auction.

“Over the past 35 years, Kalamalka Rotary has hosted the biggest gala event of the year in Vernon – the Kalamalka Rotary Dream Auction. Through the generosity of bidders, donors, and sponsors alike, we have collectively raised over $4,440,000 since 1985 with 100 per cent of all donations going directly back into carefully selected organizations that support families in our community and around the world,” a news release from the organization said.

Funds have been used to feed children in the North Okanagan through the Starfish Backpack Program; build waterparks, skateboard parks and bike trails; funded hospital towers and low income housing; funded and facilitated kitchen renovations and transportation for those in need and supported countless other important projects.

“Internationally, we have helped to provide clean water and jobs in Haiti; built schools in Nepal and Ethiopia and rebuilt communities after natural disasters, just to name a few. Today, the world has changed – a lot. The greatly anticipated Dream Auction cannot proceed this fall in its usual format. But the need for helping families and organizations that depend on this event has grown,” said the release.
