Sep 10, 2020 | 3:33 PM

B.C. is reporting a new single day record for new Covid-19 cases.

Dr. Bonnie Henry announced 139 new cases on Thursday, bringing the provincial total to 6,830.

There were no new cases in Interior Health, remaining at 462.

There are 14 active cases in the Interior with no one in hospital.

There are now 1,512 active cases in B.C., with 42 people in hospital and 14 in intensive care.

There are no new deaths with the total still at 213.

A total of 3,109 people are under public health monitoring after exposure to people with known Covid cases.

The number of people recovered is 5,190 and there are no new health care or community outbreaks.

As students returned to classes today, Dr. Henry said the school community will be notified if there is a case of Covid and the larger community will be notified if there is community risk.

“We will be announcing any school outbreaks so that everybody knows what is going on as our school system goes back to the new normal,” said Henry.

Henry said if there is no transmission event or exposure when somebody is infectious in a school, that is not considered an outbreak and not considered a school case.

“An outbreak is when we would see transmission between people in the school setting, where additional measures need to take place, and that’s what we will be reporting on publicly to everybody, when we have an outbreak.”

Case counts by health region:

  • 2,343 (Vancouver Coastal)
  • 3,551 (Fraser Health)
  • 187 (Island Health)
  • 462 (Interior Health)
  • 203 (Northern Health)
  • 84 (Reside outside of Canada)
