Provincial court

Prison time for suspect in bizarre robbery

A man that committed a bizarre robbery more than three years ago in Vernon, has been sentenced.

Forty-year-old Andrew Robert Pigott broke into Cash Stop Loans on 27th Street through a roof vent on April 24, 2017, and then waited until the office opened before using a rope to drop into the office, surprising a female employee.

He pointed what appeared to be a real handgun at the staff member before fleeing with cash.

It took about a year for the police investigation to result in three charges against Pigott.

A provincial court judge recently gave Pigott a sentence of time served on a robbery charge.

“The sentence would have been 48 months but he was credited for that amount of time spent in custody pre-sentence,” Dan McLaughlin of the B.C. Prosecution Service said.

For count two, using an imitation firearm in the commission of an offence, Pigott received a 10-month sentence.

The “sentence would have been 16 months but the offender received six months’ credit for time served,” McLaughlin said.

The third count was disguising face during the commission of an offence, for which Pigott was sentenced to 14 months less one day.

The “sentence [will] run consecutive to count two for effective 24-month sentence,” McLaughlin said.

After he has served his prison time, Pigott will be on probation for three years.
