UPDATE: Biker seriously injured in crash

Aug 24, 2020 | 9:20 AM

UPDATE:

A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash with a pickup at 25 Avenue and 39 Street Monday morning just before 9 a.m., RCMP report.

“The motorcycle was eastbound on 25 Avenue when a pick-up truck made a lefthand turn in front of the motorcycle,” said Cpl. Tania Finn, Vernon RCMP spokesperson. “When the motorcycle collided with the pick-up truck, the impact caused the operator of the motorcycle to lose their helmet before striking the ground.”

Finn said the pickup driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with officers while the motorbike driver was transported to hospital by BC Ambulance Service with serious injuries.

“It does not appear that speed or alcohol were factors in this collision,” said Finn. “As the collision occurred in a construction zone, Worksafe BC was advised by police.”

The motorcycle was towed from the scene and the intersection was re-opened to the public.

“The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP continue to investigate the cause of the incident and anyone with information regarding this collision is urged to contact Const. Gordon Carson of the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP at (250) 545-7171,” Finn said.
