New Covid-19 cases remain low in the Interior, with no new infections since Wednesday.

According to B.C. government data, the last time that happened in Interior Health (IH) was Aug. 16.

The latest numbers released Thursday show 80 new cases in B.C., with all but two of those in the Lower Mainland, with one in both Island Health and Northern Health.

There are 15 active cases in Interior Health with no one in hospital.

There have been two more Covid-related deaths in B.C, both in long term care in the Fraser region, bringing the total to 200.

There are 780 active cases, with 11 people in hospital and four in critical or intensive care, and 2,574 people are under active public health monitoring.

There is a new community outbreak with nine cases at a Loblaws distribution centre in the Fraser region.

“We do continue to see new infections,” said deputy provincial health officer Dr. Reka Gustafson. “The number at this time is stable but we still continue to see them. The number of people in hospital remains low. We are seeing small increases in infections in the 40 to 60 year old age group. We are carefully monitoring this trend because we know the risk of severe illness goes up with age.”
