UPDATE

A vehicle fire sparked a response from the Silver Star Fire Department and provincial firefighters on Monday afternoon (Aug. 17).

The Wildfire Service says crews were able to keep the Vance Creek fire (0.01 hectare) from spreading to adjacent areas.

“We have three personnel on site along with the fire department,” Gagan Lidhran, fire information officer, told Vernon Matters.

Meantime the Goat Forest Service Road fire, 8 kilometres south of Lavington, was still at one hectare Monday afternoon at 5 p.m. with 20 firefighters on site.

“We have one helicopter bucketing as well,” said Lidhran.

Both fires are believed to be human caused.

B.C. Wildfire crews are working on a new wildfire southeast of Vernon which is called the Goat Forest Service Road fire.

It is eight kilometres south of Highway 6, south of Lavington, and it’s currently one hectare and classified as out of control.

“We have 23 personnel on site, one helicopter and an air tanker as well,” Gagan Lidhran, fire information officer, told Vernon Matters.

It’s believed to be human-caused.

“At this time it’s a surface fire with some visible open flame and no structures are threatened at this time,” added Lidhran.

The fire was first reported Sunday afternoon.

There is also a new wildfire north of Malakwa in the Shuswap (Crazy Creek) which is 4 hectares.
