There is a new community outbreak of Covid-19 at the Okanagan Correctional Centre in Oliver.

Dr. Bonnie Henry, provincial health officer, reported the outbreak Thursday, saying three staff members are infected.

“We had a small outbreak at that facility a number of months ago,” said Henry who said outbreak protocols have been implemented at the prison.

Those were among four new Covid cases in Interior Health since Wednesday for a total of 398.

Around B.C, there are 78 new cases, with 72 of those in the Lower Mainland.

There are now 578 active cases with nine people in hospital and four in critical or intensive care.

There are no new deaths and 3,500 people have recovered from the virus.

Henry said 1,878 “close contacts” are currently in isolation around B.C. because they have been exposed to Covid-19.

Health Minister Adrian Dix says anyone who holds a private party in a restaurant or bar this weekend will be seeing environmental health officers.

“It’s our expectation that the limits on the number of people at parties will be in place this weekend everywhere in B.C. That we can get at, we are going to ensure that expectation is followed everywhere, and should it not be followed consequences must follow,”stated Dix.
