B.C. health officials are reporting 47 new cases of COVID-19 today (Aug. 6), and no new deaths. One new case is being reported in the Interior Health region.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says there are currently 371 active cases in B.C, with 11 people in hospital. Five people are in intensive care.

The provincial total of COVID-19 cases stands at 3,881; 3,315 people have recovered.

Here is where the cases in B.C. have been found:

  • 1,143 (Vancouver Coastal)
  • 2,045 (Fraser Health)
  • 146 (Vancouver Island Health)
  • 385 (Interior Health)
  • 93 (Northern Health)
  • 69 (Reside outside of Canada)

B.C’s death toll remains at 195 lives lost.

Dr. Henry says there have been two new health-care facility outbreaks or community outbreaks in the Vancouver Coastal region. Province-wide, there are now five long-term care facilities with active outbreaks including one in an acute care facility.

Henry reminded British Columbians to recognize their successful efforts to flatten the curve and asked everyone to continue their efforts. She was tried to comfort parents with school-aged children, saying British Columbians have proven we can be successful through our layers of protection.

Health Minister Adrian Dix singled out the City of Kelowna, and others, for doing an “outstanding job of working with Interior Health” to reduce Covid numbers since a community outbreak in July.

“Right at the beginning when we started to see cases in Interior Health and around Kelowna, the mayor, members of council, the city, the leadership of Interior Health, people like MLA Norm Letnick and others came together with us and started talking about what needed to be done. So all the things you’ve seen in Kelowna, are all a model of how we respond to these questions,” said Dix.

He says the efforts have had a positive effect with a significant decline in active cases in IH in last few weeks.
