Sally Ann’s downtown store to shut

Jun 9, 2020 | 1:04 PM

The Salvation Army is closing its downtown thrift store on 29th Avenue due to the costs of operating two stores in the community.

The store operated for 32 years.

“The decision to close the store did not come easily, and we are deeply saddened,” Salvation Army spokesperson Stefan Reid said. “Several factors played into our decision, but at the end of the day it boiled down to finances.”

“We simply cannot afford to keep operating two stores, while serving the community effectively.”

He said a decline in foot traffic and changes in the local economy due to the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in significant revenue drops.

The shop will close its doors on June 29.

Reid said the Sally Ann’s big thrift store at 5400 24 Street will reopen on June 22.
