B.C.’s Passenger Transportation Board has given a Vancouver-based company approval to provide ride hailing services in five regions of B.C. including the Okanagan.

Ripe Rides plans to start operating in Metro Vancouver and then to gradually roll-out in other areas of the province.

Three other ride share companies, Kabu-Ride, Safe Ride and LGT Technologies have been given the green light to begin service in the Okanagan.

Another company called Dad’s Dial A Driver Services, had its application for the Okanagan and four other regions turned down by the board.

Bonny’s Taxi Ltd was given approval to operate in Region 1, the Lower Mainland and Whistler.

“The decisions were made after a careful review of the extensive materials received during the application process which included supporting information provided by the applicants and submissions from interested members of the public and stakeholders<” stated a news release from the PTB.
