B.C. Covid update: 7 new cases, one death; new survey launched

The B.C. government has launched a province-wide survey to get feedback on the public’s experience and actions with the Covid pandemic so far.

“The information we gather will help inform the decisions we make in the weeks and months ahead,” said Dr. Bonnie Henry, provincial health officer.

Henry said other future studies will be held into immunity to Covid, and how technology could be used for information sharing and contact tracing for Covid going forward in B.C.

The survey, which takes 10 to 15 minutes, is on the BC Centre for Disease Control website.

“I encourage you to make the time to complete this survey and help us understand your experiences so far,” said Henry.

There is just 7 new cases around B.C. since Monday, and one new death.

There hasn’t been a new case in Interior Health since last Friday.

Despite the low number of new cases, officials are encouraging caution.

“We just cannot get ahead of ourselves,” said Health Minister Adrian Dix. The only travel we should be doing in the next little while is moving from phase 1 to phase 2 because Covid-19 is not going anywhere. It’s still in every health region in B.C.”

New cases: 7

Total cases: 2,360

Cases by health region:

Vancouver: 874

Fraser: 1,124

Vancouver Island: 125

Interior Health: 180 (same since May 8)

Northern Health : 57

There are new outbreaks to report.

There are 397 active cases around the province.

Of those, 63 are in hospital (2 in Interior Health) with 16 in critical or ICU care
