CERB text scam in the Okanagan

Police in the Okanagan have received numerous complaints this week about a scam related to the Canada Emergency Response Benefit, or CERB.

RCMP in Kelowna say a text message is sent to a phone saying the recipient had received a deposit for the CERB that includes a link or attachment to follow.

By clicking on the link, the victim can allow malware to be installed on their device, or may be taken to a webpage where they will be asked to provide personal information which will lead to identity theft.

The advice is you receive this text, do NOT click on any links or attachments, just delete it immediately.
